Can I use my cell phone or another US-purchased cell phone in India?
I moved from the states to New Delhi, India. My old phone (Nokia, GSM) with a SIM card doesnt work here since I was on Cingular’s national plan in the US. I wonder if I can still retain the SIM card for another phone, or can I keep the phone and just go with an Indian carrier like Hutch or Airtel? Will it work? Also, if I buy a new phone I would like to buy it in the states since exports are VERY expensive here. Can I do that — buy a new phone, transfer the SIM, and go with an Indian carrier? Any thoughts on this??
Yes the phone will work in India. I just advise you to get an indian sim card because if you keep your american it will be liking calling from the States to India and if someone from the States was calling you you would be charged too (the beauty of roaming).
